Practising Editorial Looks

 Editorial Practice Look 1

So for my editorial look 1 I have decided to go for the Marilyn Monroe look. Below shows me practising my Marilyn Monroe hair look on a model, however this isn't the model I will be using. My model will have much shorter hair and will be blonde. I parted the hair at the side and used heated rollers to get tight curls in the hair, although the model I am using here has much longer hair I was still happy with the outcome and how tight and soft looking the curls were. I feel this hair style will fit perfectly into my desired look.

I then practised the Marilyn Monroe make up on myself. I kept the skin complexion quite pale but natural looking and highlighted certain areas such as across the top of the cheek bones and down the bridge of the nose. I used a light coloured eye-shadow, I didn't want it to be too dark on the eyelids as the attention is more on the boldness of the lashes. I did a couple of coats of mascara on the lashes to make them thick and dark as Marilyn Monroe's would look, with my model I may apply natural false lashes depending on how long her lashes are. I also darkened the eyebrows slightly using a light brown eye-shadow and a sharp eye-brow pencil to define the outer side of the brows. I then used a red lip liner to go around the shape of the lips to make them look more plump and give more definition to them and then I placed a ruby red lipstick onto the whole lip. With a black eye liner pen I then gently created a dot on the side of the smile line. I was very happy with the outcome and actually found the make up look quite simple to recreate.

Editorial Practice Look 2

So for my editorial look 2 I came to the decision that I would definitely be using the colour theme blue as this is the latest trend colour for spring 2016. Above shows an image from the Max Factor spring/summer 2016 shoot of Candice Swanepoel and I have used this image as I feel it really fits in well with my ideas. In the image I like the fact that the blue lighting shines making the photograph look blue. I also like the fact of the use of blue eye-liner in the photo as this is something that is very popular this season and is also something in which I will be incorporating into my make up look. The blue flower in the photograph also links in with my ideas as I am going to be using bluebells in the location of my photo-shoot.

Below shows some images of my practice make up look for my editorial shoot.

For my practice make up look I applied a natural base foundation and gently applied some powder to set the base in place. I then highlighted certain areas of the face, above the cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose and in the centre of the forehead. I then contoured the cheekbones using a deep, bright blue and blended it in with my blending brush. I then used a deep blue eye-shadow for the eyes as well making them look very bold and applied this just on the eye lids. I then used a black eye-liner across the top of the eye and also underneath the eye too, however when creating the look on my model I will be using a blue eye-liner instead of black. Next I applied a few coats of mascara to the lashes making them look thick and dark so they stand out like the rest of the eye make up. I then combed through the brows and used a sharp dark brown eye-brow pencil to gently go over the brows making them look more defined. Finally to finish my make up look I added a metallic, blue lipstick to the lips making them also look bold and defined. I was very happy with how the practice look went.

For my models hair I have decided to go for natural waves which is also in this season. I will create the waves by using salt spray and styling mousse and also a diffuser on the hair dryer. Some images of the look are below along with my practice look.
