For my first editorial shoot I decided to research images and make up products by Max Factor. I was looking for ideas which I could develop on to help me create something as if I were telling a story.
One particular idea that caught my interest was the Marilyn Monroe look. Pat McGrath transformed brand ambassador Candice Swanepoel who appeared in Max Factor's new beauty campaign 2015 who were celebrating their 80th anniversary remembering Mr Factor's most iconic client, Marilyn Monroe. The brand states: "Norma Jeane entered his (Max Factor's) Blonde Room in the late 1940's as a brunette, and thanks to Mr. Max Factor emerged complete with platinum blonde hair, a beauty look fit for Marilyn Monroe."

"Marilyn made the sultry red lip, creamy skin and dramatically lined eyes the most famous beauty look of the 1940's and it's a look that continues to dominate the beauty and fashion industry," says Max Factor Global Creative Design Director, Pat McGrath.
"It is the ultimate look that defines glamour - nothing else compares. Ruby Tuesday, inspired by one of Marilyn's favourite Max Factor lipsticks, is still my go-to red today for an instant shot of glamour, and continues to be one of the most popular shades for both make-up artists and real women. It's the ultimate glamorous red."
"Through expert diagnosis and make-up artistry, Norma Jeane's facial features were pulled out and dramatized through make-up. Her skin was creamy and flawless, the shape of her eyes was elongated through clever use of eyeliner and her lips were accentuated with a sultry red shade, becoming the key focal point of the entire look. Through make-up artistry and the right products, Max Factor helps women today identify their best features so they can undergo their own glamour transformation."

Monroe died in 1962, aged 36, but her estate continues to make millions each year. Last year, she was ranked sixth in Forbes magazine’s annual list of the highest-earning dead celebrities, making an estimated £11 million.
Max Factor created four different shades of lipstick, Ruby red, Sunset Red, Berry and Cabernet to create at least one red shade to suit every woman.
Max Factor Marilyn Ruby Red (01) Lipstick is inspired by Marilyn original love shade and it’s described as a bold, true red. It’s a medium bright red with neutral undertones and a natural sheen. It’s truly a rich, pigmented shade that looks fully opaque on the lips. It doesn't emphasizes lip lines and it leaves lips feeling so soft due to its incredibly smooth and creamy texture that glides easily and evenly across the lips. If you are on the lookout for a classy red then you shouldn't miss this one. It will complement any skin tone from light to dark and can be applied with a soft hand if you don’t want to look very intense on you.
Red lips will continue on from spring in 2016, but will be worn in a contemporary way keeping the eyes free from eye-liner and mascara. Also keeping skin looking bright and glowing with this look, to avoid looking drained.
From the image shown above I love the way the model shows off deep red lips with soft curls.
I also felt that the roses used in the image were the perfect prop to use to show off the ruby red lips. Roses are a romantic flower that have a deep, velvet look to them and are a symbol of love and passion. I was completely admired by the classic roses used in the image as I felt it projected what the lipstick was all about, however I wanted to add my own inspiration and touch to it.
One idea I have come up with is to change the prop and perhaps use something like a velvet red scarf instead of roses as this will still symbolise the deep, velvet look as well as still showing the romance and capturing the ruby red lips. I was thinking the model could use her hands to move the scarf around to find the perfect pose.
Another idea that I have come up with is using individual rose petals instead of actual roses as I believe this will still capture the romance, the beauty and the main significance of the flower and portray the lipstick in all its glory.
I also quite looked the next image shown below due to the lady posing with a natural smile and gently dropping rose petals over herself.
I was able to see that from most of the poses they all show excitement, fun and happiness.

I also thought about using a different coloured flower completely but felt this wouldn't represent the ruby red lips as well as a deep, velvet red colour would.
When I was out shopping I came across some canvas's in a shop which showed Marilyn Monroe and also Audrey Hepburn. This gave me an idea to change the model to Audrey Hepburn as she was still from the same era as Marilyn Monroe and they both showed off ruby red lips in a lot of their looks.
Below are the canvas's I saw in the shop and took a photo of and you are able to see from these just how much they resemble one another.
I also researched and thought about different poses I would to use for my model. I firstly began to research some poses from Marilyn Monroe herself. I can see from the photo's that Marilyn Monroe was always smiling and always looked naturally happy showing off her bright white teeth in most of her photographs. She also seemed to have her hands up by her face or in her hair when posing. I also noticed that she seemed to love to wear elegant dresses with a pleated flow at the bottom.
I then came across some images of Candice Swanepoel when she was modelling as Marilyn Monroe for the Max Factor's new beauty campaign 2015. I feel these images really portrayed Marilyn Monroe's poses as they show a beautifully big natural smile again showing off her white teeth and also shows her holding her hands up elegantly under her chin.
I quite liked the photo shown below which I found of Marilyn Monroe as she is posing in a red chair which is one of the props I have in mind to use. From the photograph it shows a happy, relaxed feel with her leaning back in the chair and resting her arm on the back of the chair.
