This unit aims to develop us with an understanding of how make-up and hair design concepts for fashion and beauty are
developed from idea conception through to realization. The outcome produced for
this unit is to be an advertising campaign for our given beauty brand. Emphasis
will be placed on the research and development of ideas and will engage
us in a deeper understanding of the practical and theoretical approaches
required to produce innovative visual outcomes. We will be expected to
build on existing technical skills and theoretical knowledge from Level 4,
producing work to a professional standard for an identified fashion and/or
beauty market.
Through an employability-focused approach, we will also be introduced to the diverse roles of the make-up and hair artist/designer
across editorial, advertising and fashion arenas. The unit, with particular
emphasis on the timed assessment, will encourage us to develop key
transferable skills in communication, collaboration and negotiation.
There will be many areas of study which we will be focusing on, these are:
- The role of the photographer,
stylist, fashion designer, make up and hair designer in relation to the
rest of a creative team, and in commercial and creative contexts.
- The development of an idea from
initial concept to final execution; research techniques and sources.
- Organizational aspects of working
with a make-up and hair design team.
- The relationship between
lighting, post production, make-up and hair design and styling; how they
complement or restrict one another.
- Construction and editing of
images for fashion and beauty industry
- The presentation of ideas through
verbal and visual media
- Giving appropriate critical
feedback.
